Bob Marley Day

Bob Marley's birthday is Monday, February 6th.

We celebrate it every year here in our home and school.

I thought I'd share with you some of our plans for school on Monday, "Bob Day".

This is one the girls look forward to every year!

What do you do in your family that is different from most people you know?

It is sort of a holiday, in the sense that we won't be following our usual schedule. But, we'll still manage to get in almost all of the subjects. Wanna know how? Take a peek below.

Breakfast (cooking): Momma's Ital Banana Porridge

Read Aloud: We'll read from this precious book that we already own.

Poetry: We'll read several of the poems in this beautiful book by Tony Medina, I and I Bob Marley.

Baking:  We'll bake some authentic Jamaican Coco Bread together, enjoy some for a snack and again with our dinner.

Music:  This one is beyond easy in our home. We might listen to any one of his many CDs. We will most certainly play our Bob Marley The Legend Live (Santa Barbara County Bowl November 25th, 1979) DVD. We might even pop in our Bob Marley Legend (the best of Bob Marley and the Wailers) DVD. The girls will probably join in on the djembe or the cajon.

Art: We'll do some picture study on the beautiful paintings in our books and then spend some time doing wet-on-wet watercolor painting with only RED, YELLOW and GREEN.

Geography:  We will find Jamaica on the globe and look for Kingston and Trenchtown on a map of Jamaica.

Dinner:  We'll enjoy some of Momma's Jamaican Rice-n-Peas, Spinach with Coconut Milk and that fresh Coco Bread we baked for dinner.

...

And, just to make me feel better, we'll squeeze in some Dreambox Math. I think that will round out the day quite nicely. How many holidays can you fit in reading, math, geography, poetry, music, art, art appreciation, cooking, baking and literature?

Don't you just love homeschooling? I know I sure do!
