Impromptu Spring Break

If you read this post, then you know about my "Impromptu Spring Break". We took last week off from our lessons. We didn't do anything special and I really didn't get all that much accomplished. But, I thought I'd share some of what we did last week. Since I wasn't "doing school", I didn't take notes like I normally would. So, I really can't remember what all went down. But, I can at least share some pictures with you. Here's a peek at what we did around these parts last week.

We played with legos in the sunshine.

We took Daddy and the dogs to the preserve we had done school at the previous week.

We used our old-fashioned popcorn popper to make popcorn for a family movie night. We watched "Five Children and It" (a book we had once started and never finished ~ maybe we'll break it back off the shelf one of these days).

We went to the Castillo de San Marcos with our Homeschool Group (I must have been too busy or too entertained to take many pictures).

The Hippie attended our Weekly Waldorf Handwork Group. The Princess has informed me that she doesn't want to do it anymore. So, she went with me to run errands that afternoon.

The Hippie finished reading "Bridge to Terebithia" and started reading "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".

The Princess read two Amelia Bedelia books as well as several others in our book basket and from our own shelves.

We celebrated renewal and rebirth and Jesus by spending time together as a family. We enjoyed baskets, had some biscuits and gravy, painted our eggs (I got paper mache eggs ~ we don't eat eggs and I didn't want to contribute to the millions of plastic Easter eggs) and had some egg-hunt fun. We walked out to the beach with the dogs and had dinner together.

We read this wonderful book (from our own bookshelf) about Jesus and the beautiful lessons he taught us about loving one another and about living in unity.

We read this great book from the library about the message Jesus most wanted us to remember ~ to "forgive and love. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."

We started a project that the Hippie has been wanting to do for a long time now. We are going to try to grow a pineapple plant. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Other than that, the girls watched TV (Wild Kratts, Little Einsteins, Zooboomafu and Myth Busters), played with their friends on the street, played with their toys and hung out (code for drove me crazy).

Momma watched entirely too many past episodes of Desperate Housewives (we all have a guilty pleasure or two, don't we?) and spent WAY too much time pouring over the Sonlight catalog and website, trying to decide if I wanted to buy a Core. Thankfully, I finally decided that there was nothing at all wrong with the plans I've already made for MY family. I really must stop trying to fix what "ain't broke", know what I mean?

I can't think of much else. I guess that was how we spent our "Impromptu Spring Break". Now, we are in our 12th week of 2012, finishing up our work for the first term. In my spare time this week (haha, when exactly is that?), I need to get us all prepared for the start of our second term next week.

Hope you are having a lovely week.

  1. About the Sonlight thing, this is the time of year when all the big homeschool companies send out their beautiful catalogs. I spend hours investigating and comparing and thinking, only to finally decide at the end that what I had in the first place was pretty good, lol. God reminds me to look at my already overflowing bookshelves. They have such great marketing and testimonials, it sucks you in!

  2. Thank you, Marisa. Yes, they sure do have great marketing, don't they? I get REALLY sucked in ~ wanting "Box Day" in my house and wanting to be those little families in the testimonials. I have to remind myself that we are ALREADY educating the way that WE want to. We ARE those families. We DO use great books like SL, they just don't all come in one box at one time that cost me $700. :) Thanks for reminding me that I am not alone. :) Nice to "meet" you.
